The Atwater Village Chamber of Commerce brought the sewer repairs to our attention via their article:
I emailed Angela Motta (CD13 Field Deputy). She responded quickly to another email that she was currently in a staff meeting but would be in touch soon.
I called the first number and left a message. I called the second number and reached Tom Lufkin of Boise Construction. By this time Luis Lopez had emailed Angela as well, greatly concerned about the congestion and how it would directly affect his business on the corner of Atwater and Fletcher. When I spoke with Mr. Lufkin, my primary goal was to find more information on the residents’ access.
Here is what Mr. Lufkin told me:
*It is an emergency job, requested by the Department of Public Works for the City of L.A.
*The sewer in question has not been replaced since 1928.
*Street closed to through traffic but residents will have access
*No proof of residency is needed. Residents will coordinate with the workers on-site. Direct contact is Dave Gannon at 805-857-2987.
*The signs will say no parking from 6:30am-4pm and the work will take place between 9am-3pm.
*For Atwater Avenue residents, the first couple weeks of work will not directly affect access to driveways or houses, except as it affects Fletcher Drive.
*Once they begin work on the manhole (pictured) in the 3100 block, access by car will be more difficult. Residents will need to move their cars ahead of the construction schedule.
*Mr. Lufkin did flyer the neighborhood yesterday. I personally found the flyer near my door, but it had fallen into the bushes.
*Tom Lufkin quickly emailed me the flyer to distribute and will send updates to my Atwater Village Neighborhood Council email.
*Residents can also feel free to email questions to me or bring their questions to one of two upcoming AVNC meetings: Tonight, Tuesday 7pm @Kaldi Coffee & Tea (Outreach & Communications meeting) or Thursday, August 12th (Board of Governors meeting).
I will also post more information on the Atwater Village Neighborhood Council website, Facebook page and Twitter account, as we learn.
At the end of the original article, Atwater Village News posts these contacts. I thank them for giving me such direct ways to find out more information:
